Kato Joshua Ssemakula is 8 years old and in Primary 1. Joshua is bright-eyed but very shy, often consulting with his twin brother, Joram. He lives with his siblings and parents in a house they care for but do not own. His father, once a bricklayer, is unable to work due to an illness, and his mother, a casual hairdresser, is the sole provider. Joshua helps at home by fetching water, cleaning, and washing utensils. His favorite food is rice and goat meat, his favorite color is red, and he enjoys studying numbers. Joshua dreams of becoming a landlord and a petrol station attendant.
